Dementia is a slowly progressive brain disorder marked by the loss of ability to think, reason and remember. In Lewy body dementia, abnormal round structures — called Lewy bodies — develop in regions of your brain involved in thinking and movement.

Lewy body dementia shares characteristics with both Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Like Alzheimer's, it causes confusion. It may also cause distinctive physical signs typical of Parkinson's — rigid muscles, slowed movement and tremors. Lewy body dementia also cause hallucinations.

Lewy Body Dementia Symptoms will become worst from time to time. Although the symptoms may look like Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s, there are some symptoms that only happen to Lewy Body Dementia’s patients. The symptoms are:

• Mental decline or Cognitive problem.
• This symptom may include memory loss, reduced attention span, reduced alertness, and confusion just like Alzheimer’s problem.

• Repeated visual hallucinations and depression.
• This is the first symptom that Lewy Body Dementia’s patient experienced. They will see people, animals, colors, and shape that aren’t there.
• Depression is also common in this disease.

• Movement disorder.
• This symptom is like Parkinson’s disease. People with Lewy Body Dementia will have difficulties in handling the daily living task because they are having rigid muscles, a shuffling walks or tremors, and also slowed movements.

• Sleep difficulties.
• This will include acting out dreams and insomnia.

• Fluctuating attention.
• This symptom may include disorganized speech, lethargy, frequent drowsiness, and also staring into space in a long period.

• Fluctuating in autonomic process.
• The autonomic processes that are intended such as constipation, body temperature, blood pressure, difficulty in swallowing and also urinary difficulties.

Actually, the specific causes of Lewy Body Dementia still unknown until now. Many researches are being conducted to discover the real causes of this disease. In some cases, this disease can be hereditary.

Some scientists have suggested that this disorder may be related to Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease and it is may be the variant of Alzheimer’s disease. This is because Lewy Body Dementia contains a protein buildup within the brain associated with Parkinson’s disease.

Besides that, people with Lewy Body Dementia also have tangles and plaques in their brains associated with Alzheimer’s disease. In other hand, Lewy Body often found in Parkinson people’s brain.
