Brain Coma was caused by lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain. This resulting the overall of brain's function are not functioning properly and smoothly. Generally, the brain which was not functioning cannot be recovered and lead to brain coma. Some patients, they will suffer from brain coma before their heartbeat completely stop.
Below are the lists of causes that may lead to brain coma:
Swelling can occur when there is imbalance of electrolyte, lack of oxygen or hormones in the brain. In fact, brain tissue may swell even though without stress.
When there is a compression on the injured side of the brain, the brain’s layers will be bleeding and can cause coma.
When there are infections in the central nervous system such as encephalitis or meningitis, brain coma will occur.
Single seizures seldom causing coma but continuous seizures (epilepticus) may cause coma. This is because the brain does not have time to recover between the seizures.
Due to the substance in the body not being disposed correctly, toxic level will be accumulated and then lead to the disruption of the brain’s neuron function.
Stroke occurs when there is no blood flow to the brain stem. So, the brain system cannot function smoothly and then lead to coma.
Injured head may cause bleeding or swelling to the brain. So, when the trauma causing the brain swells, the fluid will pushes against the skull up and then the brain will push down the brain stem.
