High blood pressure

High blood pressure (hypertension) usually causes no symptoms, but over time it raises the risk of stroke, heart attack and kidney disease. It is very common in Malaysia and is managed with regular monitoring, lifestyle changes and, for many people, daily medicine.

Know your numbers

A reading of 140/90 mmHg or above, measured on several occasions, is generally considered high. Your doctor will give you your target. Home monitoring and regular check-ups are important.

Lifestyle steps that help

  • Less salt and processed food, more vegetables and fruit
  • Regular exercise and keeping a healthy weight
  • Limiting alcohol, and stopping smoking
  • Managing stress and getting enough sleep

What The Tole can offer

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can be offered as supportive care for general wellbeing, stress and sleep. They are not a replacement for blood pressure medicine.

We do not claim to lower blood pressure or cure hypertension. Some herbs, such as liquorice, can raise blood pressure, and others interact with blood pressure medicines, so we need a full medicine list. Please never stop medicine on your own.

Acupuncture and herbal treatment at The Tole

At The Tole, treatment combines neuro acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, in the way developed by our founder, Dato’ Leong Hong Tole. Master Tole is the founder of TheTole neuro acupuncture and TheTole neuro brain powder, and the treatment is based on his own technique and on the family’s ancestral formulas. His team reviews your history and any medical reports, then recommends acupuncture, herbal preparations, or both. Herbs are prepared for the individual, using natural herbs.

Treatment at The Tole is used together with your medical treatment, to support your recovery. We never ask anyone to stop the care their doctor has advised.

You can walk in during opening hours without an appointment. If you live far away, email your medical reports and we will advise you on herbs and, where suitable, an intensive course of acupuncture. Herbs can be couriered to any country, usually in 3 to 5 working days. See herbs by post.

Please consult before you buy. Before you purchase any TheTole herbs, including TheTole neuro brain powder, we recommend consulting Dato’ Tole or his team first, so that you receive the correct prescription for your condition.

Common questions

Can herbs lower my blood pressure?

We do not make this claim. Proven approaches are medicines when needed and lifestyle changes.

Can I stop my tablets if my numbers are good?

No. Good numbers usually mean the medicine is working. Only your doctor should change it.

Is acupuncture safe with high blood pressure?

Generally yes. Please tell us your readings and medicines before treatment.

See a doctor first if

  • Severe headache, chest pain, breathlessness, weakness or vision changes with high readings. Call 999
  • Readings consistently above your target
  • Dizziness or fainting after starting medicine
  • Before adding any herb to blood pressure medicine
