Many women have some cramping with their period. Pain that is strong, getting worse or disrupting your life deserves attention.
About period pain
Period pain, or dysmenorrhoea, is caused by contractions of the uterus. Symptoms can include lower abdominal and pelvic cramps, back pain, nausea, headaches and tiredness.
Possible underlying causes
Sometimes there is a condition behind the pain, which a doctor can look for:
- Endometriosis or adenomyosis
- Fibroids or ovarian cysts
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
What we offer
Herbal formulas are prepared for each woman according to her symptoms, and neuro acupuncture is given in person. Both are traditional approaches that aim to ease discomfort and support circulation in the pelvic area.
How we work
At The Tole, treatment combines neuro acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The Master’s team reviews your history and any medical reports, then recommends acupuncture, herbal preparations, or both. Herbs are prepared for the individual, using natural herbs and the family’s ancestral formulas.
You can walk in during opening hours without an appointment. If you live far away, email your medical reports and we will advise you on herbs and, where suitable, an intensive course of acupuncture. Herbs can be couriered to any country, usually in 3 to 5 working days. See herbs by post.
See a doctor first if
- Pain that is new, severe or getting steadily worse
- Pain that medicines do not control
- Fever or unusual discharge with pelvic pain
- Pain together with heavy bleeding or clots
Traditional Chinese medicine is offered as a complement to, not a replacement for, medical care. We do not promise a cure or a particular result, and responses vary from person to person. Please keep your doctor informed about any herbs or treatments you use.
