Nerve pain, also called neuropathic pain, comes from damage to or disease of the nervous system itself. It feels different from the ache of a strained muscle.
Common causes
- Diabetes
- Injury or trauma, including pressure on a nerve
- Infections such as shingles
- Autoimmune conditions
- Degenerative nerve conditions
What you might notice
- Burning or shooting pain
- Tingling or numbness
- Skin that is very sensitive to touch or temperature
- Muscle weakness, or changes in the skin
Why assessment matters
Nerve pain has underlying causes that need to be identified, so seeing a doctor early is important. Bring your reports when you see us so we can take them into account.
How we work
At The Tole, treatment combines neuro acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The Master’s team reviews your history and any medical reports, then recommends acupuncture, herbal preparations, or both. Herbs are prepared for the individual, using natural herbs and the family’s ancestral formulas.
You can walk in during opening hours without an appointment. If you live far away, email your medical reports and we will advise you on herbs and, where suitable, an intensive course of acupuncture. Herbs can be couriered to any country, usually in 3 to 5 working days. See herbs by post.
See a doctor first if
- New numbness, weakness or loss of feeling
- A painful rash, especially on one side of the body
- Nerve symptoms with high blood sugar or a diagnosed condition that is not yet being managed
Traditional Chinese medicine is offered as a complement to, not a replacement for, medical care. We do not promise a cure or a particular result, and responses vary from person to person. Please keep your doctor informed about any herbs or treatments you use.
