Depression

Depression is more than feeling sad. It is a medical condition in which low mood, loss of interest and tiredness last for weeks and get in the way of daily life. It is common and it is treatable.

Signs of depression

  • Feeling low, empty or hopeless most of the day, most days
  • Losing interest or pleasure in things you used to enjoy
  • Changes in sleep or appetite
  • Low energy, poor concentration, feeling worthless or guilty
  • Withdrawing from family and friends

Medical and psychological care

Depression is treated with talking therapies, medicines or a combination, and a doctor or psychiatrist can advise which is right for you. Support from family, regular activity and routine matter too. Please do not stop an antidepressant without medical advice.

Acupuncture and herbal medicine as support

At The Tole, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are offered only as supportive care alongside, never instead of, professional treatment. They aim to ease tension and tiredness and support wellbeing.

Some studies suggest acupuncture may help low mood in some people, but the evidence is limited. We do not promise a particular result.

Acupuncture and herbal treatment at The Tole

At The Tole, treatment combines neuro acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The Master’s team reviews your history and any medical reports, then recommends acupuncture, herbal preparations, or both. Herbs are prepared for the individual, using natural herbs and the family’s ancestral formulas.

You can walk in during opening hours without an appointment. If you live far away, email your medical reports and we will advise you on herbs and, where suitable, an intensive course of acupuncture. Herbs can be couriered to any country, usually in 3 to 5 working days. See herbs by post.

What to expect at your first visit

  1. Walk in or message us. No appointment is needed during opening hours. You can also send a WhatsApp message first.
  2. Tell us your story. The Master’s team asks about your symptoms and history, and looks at any reports you bring.
  3. Agree a plan. They recommend neuro acupuncture, herbal medicine, or both, and explain what to expect.
  4. Follow up. If you take herbs, we ask you to update us on your progress by email.
