Anxiety

Anxiety is the body’s natural response to stress, but for some people it becomes constant and hard to control. It can bring both worry and physical symptoms that affect work, relationships and sleep.

What anxiety can feel like

  • Constant worry that is hard to switch off
  • A racing or pounding heart, tight chest or shortness of breath
  • Restlessness, trembling or sweating
  • Tight muscles, headaches or stomach upsets
  • Trouble sleeping or concentrating
  • Sudden waves of intense fear (panic attacks)

Medical and psychological care

Talking therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy are effective for many people, and doctors can prescribe medicines when needed. Regular exercise, sleep and reducing caffeine and alcohol also help.

Acupuncture and herbal medicine as support

At The Tole, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are offered as a supportive complement, not a replacement for professional mental health care. In the traditional view they aim to calm the body and settle the mind.

Some studies suggest acupuncture may reduce anxiety symptoms in some people, but the research is limited and mixed. We do not promise a particular result.

Acupuncture and herbal treatment at The Tole

At The Tole, treatment combines neuro acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The Master’s team reviews your history and any medical reports, then recommends acupuncture, herbal preparations, or both. Herbs are prepared for the individual, using natural herbs and the family’s ancestral formulas.

You can walk in during opening hours without an appointment. If you live far away, email your medical reports and we will advise you on herbs and, where suitable, an intensive course of acupuncture. Herbs can be couriered to any country, usually in 3 to 5 working days. See herbs by post.

What to expect at your first visit

  1. Walk in or message us. No appointment is needed during opening hours. You can also send a WhatsApp message first.
  2. Tell us your story. The Master’s team asks about your symptoms and history, and looks at any reports you bring.
  3. Agree a plan. They recommend neuro acupuncture, herbal medicine, or both, and explain what to expect.
  4. Follow up. If you take herbs, we ask you to update us on your progress by email.

Common questions

Can acupuncture help with anxiety?

Some people feel calmer and more relaxed after treatment. Research is mixed, so we offer it as support alongside your medical or psychological care.

Can I take herbs with my anxiety medicine?

Please tell us about every medicine you take and never stop prescribed medicine suddenly. Some herbs may interact, and we will plan with you.

Is anxiety a mental illness?

Anxiety is a normal emotion, but an anxiety disorder is a treatable health condition. A doctor can help you tell the difference.

See a doctor first if

  • Thoughts of harming yourself or ending your life. Please contact emergency services (999) or a crisis line such as Befrienders KL at 03-7627 2929 right away
  • A racing heart with chest pain or fainting. Rule out a heart problem first
  • Anxiety that stops you from working, sleeping or going out
  • Panic attacks that keep returning
