Kidney stones

Kidney stones are hard deposits that form in the kidneys. A stone moving down the ureter can cause sudden, severe pain in the side and back that comes in waves, sometimes with nausea and blood in the urine. Small stones often pass by themselves.

Medical care comes first

A doctor will confirm the stone with a scan and treat pain and infection. Large or blocking stones may need lithotripsy or a procedure to remove them.

Preventing stones

  • Drink enough water to pass at least two litres of urine a day
  • Reduce salt and excess animal protein
  • Keep a normal calcium intake from food
  • Limit very high oxalate foods if you form oxalate stones
  • Ask your doctor to analyse a stone and check blood and urine

What The Tole can offer

Acupuncture may be used to ease colicky pain alongside medical care. Some studies suggest it may reduce renal colic pain, but it does not remove stones, and we do not claim that herbs dissolve them. Please do not delay medical care for severe pain.

Acupuncture and herbal treatment at The Tole

At The Tole, treatment combines neuro acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, in the way developed by our founder, Dato’ Leong Hong Tole. Master Tole is the founder of TheTole neuro acupuncture and TheTole neuro brain powder, and the treatment is based on his own technique and on the family’s ancestral formulas. His team reviews your history and any medical reports, then recommends acupuncture, herbal preparations, or both. Herbs are prepared for the individual, using natural herbs.

Treatment at The Tole is used together with your medical treatment, to support your recovery. We never ask anyone to stop the care their doctor has advised.

You can walk in during opening hours without an appointment. If you live far away, email your medical reports and we will advise you on herbs and, where suitable, an intensive course of acupuncture. Herbs can be couriered to any country, usually in 3 to 5 working days. See herbs by post.

Please consult before you buy. Before you purchase any TheTole herbs, including TheTole neuro brain powder, we recommend consulting Dato’ Tole or his team first, so that you receive the correct prescription for your condition.

Common questions

Can herbs dissolve stones?

We cannot claim this. Most stones are treated by waiting, medicines or procedures.

Will I get another stone?

Many people do. Drinking enough water is the most useful step.

Can acupuncture help the pain?

It may reduce pain for some, but you may still need medical pain relief.

See a doctor first if

  • Severe pain with fever or chills. Go to emergency care
  • Being unable to pass urine, or persistent vomiting
  • Blood in the urine
  • A known single kidney with stone pain

Traditional Chinese medicine is offered as a complement to, not a replacement for, medical care. Used together with your doctor’s treatment, it aims to support your recovery. Responses vary from person to person, and no particular result can be promised. Please keep your doctor informed about any herbs or treatments you use.
